Flower Granny Square

It's Saturday and everything goes a little slow at home.  Don't have to wake up before 6 o'clock is a nice thing once in a while.

I was browsing at some pages in face book that I liked and come across Dada's Place where she share about her crochet designs and I am totally in love with her blanket that is the Flower Granny Square blanket.  And I just happen to have some of the same color she use in her tutorial.

Here are some of the squares that I made, am very happy with the result.

I used hilla cotton yarn from teetee, it's Finnish yarn and they come in great color.

Have a nice weekend everyone ......

CAL deken week 18

Yes, I am behind with the CAL blanket project but slowly catching up.
Have another blanket in the making also but I will tell you all in another post.  This one is actually now already in week 32, I have just print the rest of the pattern and crocheting slowly but sure everyday now.

Here it is I finally add some bold color as I thought it looks so cold, I just use any acrylic yarn I have at hand and add some new color when I see some are nearly gone.  So this blanket may have finish in colors differently from when I start it.

I still love how it turns our, maybe because I am making it myself ....

Anyway, more next week on this blanket ... let's see how far I will managed to do this week.

Crochet Orange Clutch

Hallo again, it's been sometime since I last post.  Yes I know, I promise to post more often but it still is not happening.  Anyway, here is the story behind my Orange Clutch ... (not exactly mine actually):

Orange clutch
Novita Huvila, hook 2,25mm

Last week my cousin ask me if I can make a clutch for to put her wallet and phone when she goes out for lunch at work.  And I said yes .... I didn't even know what it would be like but I just say yes.

She wanted orange as it is one of her favorite color at the moment ....

So after looking for some idea on pinterest, I come up with this shell motif and all the time I just change how it will look like as the final product.  The reason for the changes was that she has quiet a big wallet from the measurements she gave me, so I checked all the time if it was okay.  Finally I add the side so it will be a bit thick.  It's now finish ... well almost finish, I am making the handle at the moment and still have to line it.  Taking the time, while my mind is already in vacation.

Hopefully she will be happy with the end result ....

Thanks for trusting me with making the clutch sweet cousin ...

Have a nice Sunday everybody ...

CAL 2014

I finally made a decision to be involved with CAL 2014, from a face book group called Dutch Crochet, a Granny a day 2013.  I had been looking at all the nice blankets (dekens in Dutch) all the ladies had made.  I have to say it all just make my hand itchy to also join in, but i wasn't sure until just a few days ago.

I have to say, I made the right decision not only to join the CAL but also to dare my self in posting the few rows that I have crocheted last yesterday.  And oh boy, what a surprise I got from all the ladies!!!!
I am so pleased, they are all so supportive, knowing that this group is in Dutch a language that I have learnt in my teen, even though I use it in talking with my mom at home occasionally.  It's a great feeling, when you are around people with the same passion.  and you know you can count on them for advice and support.

Here is the few rows I crocheted yesterday .

I crochet with hook 3,5 and 4, acrylic yarn.

It has been a good day ....

Have a nice Sunday ....

Windmill Filet Crochet

Finally it's finish .... my first windmill filet crochet, which in the magazine is made as wall decoration.  It is a group of blocks with Dutch scenery.  I am busy with the second windmill, a bit different than this one ....

Still thinking what I will make this into?  A pillow?  A bag with linen lining?

This is the magazine where the pattern can be found

Happy Sunday ....

Recycle old kitchen towels

Just yesterday I had to shortened hubby's jeans and when I finished it I thought about sewing the kitchen towels I found in Red Cross second hand store about 2 months ago.  I found a very interesting inspirations in one of Mollie Makes magazine about a woman who turned old kitchen towels with bold nice pictures.  And I want to make them too, so when I score some kitchen towels in Red Cross second hand store I know I had to buy them.

Here is a picture of the three pillow cases I made yesterday.  The crocheted one I finished sometime ago but have just finished it into a case. While the other two are the ones from kitchen towels I found.

Here is a picture of the kitchen towel pillow case (the one on the back) :
I choose red and yellow buttons to add more interest to it and sew it with embroidery thread.

And the small long pillow :

I love the picture in this kitchen towel, it's about cheeses from all over France.

Spring is about to arrive .... enjoy the sun ....

PENNYLANE BROWNIES recipe

On Friday I bake brownies cause a friend is coming and wants to have a good time with her.  So, since I have not bake anything for quiet some time I think I make something easy first.  Also cause the ingredients that I have at home allow me to make this cake.  Some friends ask for the recipe when I put up the picture on fb.

I used to have the book from NCC (Natural Cooking Club) with this recipe in it, but since I lent it out to a friend and have not got it back, I go their (NCC) page to get the recipe.

But I will write it here for everyone who wants to try it.

Pennylane Brownies - Killer Brownies

Ingriedients:

4 eggs
450 gr castor sugar (I use 360 gr)
225 ml vegetable oil
60 gr chocolate powder (like Van Houten)
210 gr all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla powder
120 gr walnuts (or any kind of peanuts you like)
85 gr chocolate chips

Method:
- Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and butter/oil. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Mix the cocoa powder, flour and vanilla powder.
- Beat eggs and sugar until the sugar granules become more refined (don't over beat or you won't get the fudgy texture) . Add salt, beat again until blended.
- Turn off the mixer, sift flour mixture into the egg mixture and stir well. Pour cooking oil, stir well.
- Enter the walnuts and chocolate chips and stir.
- Pour batter into pan, bake approximately 35 minutes. Test with a toothpick / stick clean.
- Refrigerate before removed from the pan and cut into pieces.

Changing blog name

I am thinking of changing the blog name to 'my life in finland' since I want to share about some things in my life too in this blog.  While I still blog about things I make, I can also share of what I do what I think.

Winter has just begun here in Finland, I mean just because the snow has started only like two weeks ago.  Today it is not that cold, when Mikael want to play on the swing outside, so I thought why not.

After putting on all clothes we are ready to play outside.  The breeze of winter cold welcome us as I opened the flat building door, Mika just ran out to the snow which is about 15 - 20 cm high.  It is so fun, throwing snow at each other and pushing him on the swing ... he also play on the slide and got his body in the snow, listening to him laughing was so good.  He is a happy boy ....

have a wonderful winter everyone ..
